The Trump administration failed in its bid to pause a lower court’s order requiring it to continue providing funding for legal aid for migrant children as a lawsuit challenging the funding freeze is litigated.
The administration’s motion for a stay pending appeal was rejected Wednesday by a divided US Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit. The Department of Health and Human Services and other agencies had sought the stay during their appeal of a recent preliminary injunction ordering the government to continue funding 11 nonprofit groups that provide legal services for unaccompanied immigrant children.
