Nike Inc. owns a “Claw” logo associated with NBA superstar Kawhi Leonard, an Oregon federal court said, ruling for the shoe giant on Leonard’s copyright and trademark claims.
The court dismissed Leonard’s claims Wednesday after a telephonic oral argument. Judge Michael W. Mosman said a written opinion would follow on Nike’s counterclaims against Leonard, which include copyright infringement and breach of contract.
Leonard said he designed the logo—a combination of his hand, initials, and jersey number—while under a shoe deal with Nike. He said he rejected several alterations Nike proposed before agreeing to a modified version in 2014. Leonard said ...
