Nielsen Loses Jury Trial Over Patented TV-Logo-Tracking Tech

Nielsen Co. (US) LLC lost a trial over audience-measurement tools as a federal jury in Delaware found HyphaMetrics Inc. doesn’t infringe two patents for technology that detects on-screen graphics.

HyphaMetrics’ Audience Measurement System—involving hardware and software for tracking media consumption—doesn’t infringe US Patent Nos. 10,970,588 or 11,652,901, according to a verdict issued Aug. 1 in the US District Court for the District of Delaware.

Joanna Drews, CEO and co-founder of HyphaMetrics, called it “a monumental win for consumers and the entire media ecosystem.”
