New York Times, Authors Seek OpenAI President’s Diary in IP Suit

Newspapers and authors accusing OpenAI Inc. of copyright infringement urged a federal judge to order the AI giant to hand over portions of its president’s notebook.

Greg Brockman’s journal contains information relevant to determining whether OpenAI’s training of models on copyrighted works qualifies as fair use or illegal copying, according to a motion filed Jan. 30 in the US District Court for the Southern District of New York.

The plaintiffs said they learned of the notebook—which has been described in news reports as Brockman’s “personal diary"—for the first time when documents were unsealed in Elon Musk’s lawsuit alleging OpenAI defrauded ...
