Anne of Green Gables Licensing Authority Inc. is fighting the production of “Anne of Green Gables: A New Musical,” claiming it infringes on the company’s trademark rights.
AGGLA countersued production company Anne With An E LLC on Monday in the Southern District of New York, responding to Anne With An E’s lawsuit for a declaratory judgment that it doesn’t infringe AGGLA’s “Anne of Green Gables” and “Anne of Green Gables the Musical” trademarks.
While L.M. Montgomery’s 1908 novel Anne of Green Gables is in the public domain, AGGLA holds the trademark registrations for the name and images of “Anne.”
