Netflix Wipes Out GoTV’s $2.5 Million Patent Verdict on Appeal

Netflix Inc. knocked out a $2.5 million infringement verdict as the Federal Circuit found the underlying patent and two others GoTV Streaming LLC asserted against the streamer ineligible for protection.

The wireless streaming technology patents’ terms, “notwithstanding any first-blush appearance of technical specificity, have broad meanings that, individually and taken together, cannot support a conclusion that the claim is directed to a concrete computer/network advance,” Judge Richard G. Taranto wrote in a precedential opinion issued Monday by the US Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit.
