Netflix Win Axing Streaming Patent Claims Affirmed on Appeal

A patent tribunal correctly invalidated more than a dozen claims of a video streaming patent asserted by Broadcom Inc. affiliates against Netflix Inc. , the Federal Circuit ruled, directing the body to reconsider the four claims it declined to invalidate.

A three-judge panel affirmed the Patent Trial and Appeal Board’s ruling that 14 claims of US Patent No. 8,646,014 were obvious based on two earlier inventions, according to a nonprecedential opinion issued Wednesday by the US Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit.
