Netflix Must Face Patent Infringement Claims in Streaming Suit

Netflix Inc. failed to convince a federal judge in New York to dismiss claims that the media company infringed on patents for adaptive video streaming technology that enables users to experience the highest possible quality video over the internet.

The U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York denied Netflix’s motion for judgment on the pleadings Tuesday. Personalized Media Communications LLC adequately alleged its patents contained an inventive concept that wasn’t well understood, routine, and conventional at the time they were filed, the court said.
