Netflix, Hulu Beat DivX Streaming Video Patent at Agency Board

Netflix Inc. and Hulu LLC beat one of the video streaming patents DivX LLC accused them of infringing at the Patent Trial and Appeal Board.

The board agreed with the streaming services that parts of U.S. Patent No. 7,295,673 are obvious in light of prior inventions.

Netflix and Hulu sought agency review of the patent after DivX sued them for infringing several patents it says cover foundational internet streaming technologies. The board initially declined to institute trial on the ‘673 patent, then changed course on a motion for reconsideration.
