NBC Settles With Alleged ‘Dunder Mifflin’ Trademark Squatter

NBCUniversal Media LLC settled its lawsuit accusing a man of trademark squatting through his “Dunder Mifflin” registration, less than three weeks after a California federal court advanced its case.

NBC plausibly alleged it owned unregistered rights to the name of the company in the television show “The Office” and that Kenneth Talbert registered his trademark to extract money from it, the US District Court for the Central District of California ruled Jan. 27. Denying Talbert’s motion to dismiss, the court also rejected Talbert’s claims that NBC waited too long to sue and that the court lacked jurisdiction.
