NBA’s Giannis Awarded No Damages After Winning Trademark Suit

NBA star Giannis Antetokounmpo was awarded only attorneys’ fees and costs Wednesday after seeking no damages in a trademark suit in New York federal court against sellers of products bearing his name and likeness on Etsy and other online retail sites.

The failure of defendants Sherrie Richardson-Miller and Jordan Reyes to appear—while continuing to sell and profit from goods featuring Giannis’ name, likeness, and trademarks after receiving cease-and-desist letters—warrants an award of attorneys’ fees, a federal magistrate with the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York said.
