NBA Properties Inc. and NHL Enterprises LLC filed suit against a group of e-commerce entities they say produced counterfeit products featuring unauthorized league and team trademarks.
Tactics used by the defendants to conceal their identities and operations make it “virtually impossible” for the NBA and NHL to learn the who’s behind the counterfeit network, the complaints alleged.
NBAP and NHLE accused the counterfeiters of routinely using false names and addresses when registering online, and contributing to the more than $3 billion worth of seized counterfeit goods in the US in 2021.
