Peloton Interactive Inc. should pay $150 million for letting subscribers stream more than 1,000 songs it hadn’t licensed, more than a dozen music labels said in a lawsuit filed March 19 in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York.
Downtown Music Publishing LLC and the other labels accused the home cycling giant of willful copyright infringement and claim to be entitled to the maximum $150,000 per work in statutory damages. Titles allegedly used without the holder’s permission include Lady Gaga’s Academy Award-winning “Shallow” and John Lennon’s “Working Class Hero.”
