Music Giants Argue ‘Damning Facts’ Justify $1 Billion Cox Fight

Cox Communications Inc. is ignoring"damning facts,” established law and clear precedent that justified a $1 billion copyright infringement verdict, the music industry told the US Supreme Court in a response brief.

Sony Music Entertainment, Warner Bros. Records Inc., and Universal Music Corp. led publishers representing the vast majority of the industry in urging the justices to preserve a contributory liability finding affirmed by the US Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit. Cox’s decision to continue providing internet services, despite knowledge of infringement, easily distinguished the case from those the company cited, the publishers said.
