Monster Wins Additional $43 Million From Rival Drink-Maker Bang

Monster Energy Co. won $27.6 million in attorneys’ fees and costs and an additional $15 million in damages in the energy drink maker’s false adverting and trade secrets case against its now-bankrupt rival Bang Energy.

A Los Angeles federal judge added the extra fees on top of Monster’s existing $293 million verdict, one of the largest ever awards under federal false advertising law. A jury last year found that Bang maker Vital Pharmaceuticals Inc. and CEO Jack Owoc misled consumers about Bang’s “super creatine” branding and stole trade secrets.
