Monster Energy Hit With Trademark Lawsuit by Rival Drink Maker

Energy drink manufacturer Monster Energy Co. and its affiliate Reign Beverage Co. are accused of trademark infringement in a new federal lawsuit.

Vital Pharmaceuticals Inc., doing business as VPX Sports, claimed the defendants launched a “knockoff brand” called REIGN “to shamelessly copy” VPX’s own BANG brand of energy drinks.

VPX claimed it’s the exclusive licensee of the REIGN trademark owned by JHO Intellectual Property Holdings LLC.

Moreover, Monster’s cans closely resemble BANG’s distinctive trade dress, including their color schemes, logo, and the way they display the drinks’ performance ingredients, VPX said. They also copy the phrase “body fuel” from VPX’s ...
