MLB’s Phillies Reach Agreement on Rights to Phanatic Mascot

MLB’s Philadelphia Phillies have settled a copyright dispute with the creators of the costume for the Phillie Phanatic—the team’s famous green mascot.

The terms weren’t made public but the parties have “reached an agreement in principle to settle this action,” the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York said Oct. 8. Counsel for the parties didn’t immediately respond to request for comment.

The notice of agreement comes two months after a federal magistrate judge recommended that the team be allowed to continue using a new version of the mascot without having to pay the creators.
