Mission Tortillas Maker Sues Companies Over Use of Trademarks

The maker of Mission-brand tortillas and chips sued Mission Foods Corp. and Tortillas Mission LLC, alleging they’re infringing its famous trademarks.

Gruma Corp., which does business as Mission Foods, claims the defendants are using confusingly similar names, along with its “Mission” logos and marks, to sell competing Mexican food products. This is likely to cause consumer confusion, according to the complaint filed Oct. 17 in the US District Court for the Eastern District of California.

Gruma’s Mission brand has around a 40% share of the US tortillas market, the complaint said.
