Hip hop group Migos won dismissal of copyright infringement claims over their musical composition “Walk It Talk It,” after the Southern District of New York found the song isn’t substantially similar to the plaintiff’s work.
The only meaningful similarity between plaintiff Leander Pickett’s work, “Walk It Like I Talk It” and the Migos’s work is that the lyrics “walk it like I talk it” form each song’s chorus, the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York said Nov. 12.
Short phrases, including titles and slogans aren’t protectable, the court said.
