Midwest Energy Wins $57 Million in Refined-Coal Patent Trial (1)

Midwest Energy Emissions Corp. won $57 million in damages from CERT Coal Holdings LLC as a federal jury in Delaware found that a dozen CERT affiliates that sell refined coal to power plants infringed two patents for a mercury-removal process.

Four CERT coal-processor units and eight CERT refined-coal sellers induced their power-plant customers’ infringement of US Patent Nos. 10,343,114 and 10,596,517, according to a verdict issued March 1 in the US District Court for the District of Delaware.
