Microsoft Sues Over Sales of Alleged Black-Market Software Keys

Microsoft Inc. sued Office Solutions USA LLC in Miami federal court for infringing its copyrights and trademarks by allegedly selling “black market access devices” for its software.

Microsoft said Office Solutions offers stand-alone product activation keys, credentials for unlicensed Office 365 accounts, and other tools to obtain copies of its software without permission.

“When these tools are uncoupled from legally licensed software, disassociated with the devices on which they were authorized to be used, or created without authorization, the tools do not have any independent value other than to deceive unwitting consumers into acquiring copies of pirated and unlicensed software,” ...
