Microsoft Is Sued Over Patented Voice-Recognition Technology (1)

Microsoft Corp.’s virtual assistants and artificial-intelligence services infringe nine patents for technology developed by voice software pioneer VoiceBox Technologies, a federal lawsuit said.

Dialect LLC alleges Microsoft’s Cortana, Copilot, Azure AI, and Azure OpenAI infringe US Patent Nos. 9,734,825, 7,398,209, 8,195,468, 9,626,959, 7,634,409, 8,015,006, 7,809,570, 7,917,367, and 8,620,659, according to a complaint filed Dec. 20 in the US District Court for the Eastern District of Texas. Microsoft’s Azure OpenAI service is expected to generate $1 billion in 2024, the suit said. Microsoft declined to comment.
