Microsoft Accused of Infringing Text Completion Tech Patents

Microsoft Corp. was hit with a patent lawsuit from a Taiwanese research institute that says the tech giant used its text completion technology in Visual Studio software without permission.

In its suit filed Thursday, Academia Sinica accused Microsoft of infringing US Patent Nos. 8,364,468 and 8,594,999, which cover technology that helps computers suggest complete words or phrases when users type only partial sequences of characters.

Microsoft’s Visual Studio products, including its IntelliSense and IntelliCode features, use that patented method, Academia Sinica told the US District Court for the Eastern District of Texas.
