Micron Sues UMC, Jinhua Over DRAM Trade Secret Theft Claims

Micron Technology Inc. sued United Microelectronics Corp. and Fujian Jinhua Integrated Circuit Co., claiming they stole memory chip trade secrets.

In the lawsuit, filed Dec. 5 in San Francisco federal court, Micron claims that United Microelectronics, or UMC, violated trade secret and civil racketeering laws as part of its deal to manufacture dynamic random access memory—or DRAM—chips for Jinhua. The lawsuit, citing Aug. 8, 2017, charges filed in Taiwan, seeks unspecified civil damages based on claims that as part of the deal UMC and Jinhua conspired to lure former Micron employees to steal electronic and paper files.
