Micron Keeps $8 Million Bond Under Idaho Anti-'Patent Troll’ Law

Micron Technology Inc. convinced an Idaho federal judge to force Longhorn IP LLC or its patent-holding unit to post an $8 million bond, three years after he found the subsidiary’s 2022 infringement suit likely was brought in bad faith.

Longhorn and its Katana Silicon Technologies LLC unit sought to stay, waive, or reduce the bond, which secures Micron’s potential recovery of litigation costs and damages under Idaho’s bad-faith patent assertion law. It was rejected Tuesday by Judge David C. Nye of the US District Court for the District of Idaho.
