Microchip Dodges Large Damages Over Caddo Website Patents

Microchip Technology Inc. must pay Caddo Systems Inc. $235,000 for infringing patents related to the display of user menus on websites, a Western District of Texas jury said, a fraction of what Caddo sought in the case.

The jury found a Microchip website, microchip.com, infringes several patents belonging to Texas-based Caddo, following a trial in Waco. Jurors also rejected Microchip’s argument that it was licensed to use the patented technology. Caddo had asked for over $30 million if there was infringement.
