Meta Wins Order That Authors Must Share Docs in Copyright Suit

Meta Platforms Inc. persuaded a federal judge to compel the writers suing the company for copyright infringement to turn over documents detailing the damages they claim to have suffered.

The plaintiffs, who include comedian Sarah Silverman and author Richard Kadrey, must supply all documents showing they lost sales or other opportunities because of Meta’s alleged copyright infringement, as well as documents proving the plaintiffs suffered harm from the creation and distribution of a dataset of pirated books that was used to train Meta’s artificial intelligence large language model, according to the opinion filed Wednesday in the US District Court for ...
