Meta Unlikely to Escape Revived AI Copyright Claim, for Now (1)

A federal judge seemed inclined to let authors suing Meta Platforms Inc. over its AI training advance a revived a Digital Millennium Copyright Act claim even as he expressed skepticism it would survive summary judgment and chided the plaintiffs’ attorney’s “rhetoric.”

Judge Vince Chhabria said the plaintiffs had sufficiently alleged that Meta removed copyright management information—including titles and author names—from content used to train its AI, at least at the current stage of the lawsuit.
