Meta Looks to Beat Ad Scam Copyright Suit With DMCA Safe Harbor

Meta Platforms Inc. is seeking an early win in a proposed class action copyright suit, arguing that it can’t be held liable for advertising scams on Facebook that use unauthorized copyrighted images because its protected by the “safe harbor” provision of the Digital Millennium Copyright Act.

The social media giant said in its motion to dismiss filed Thursday that it meets the conditions to qualify for the provision, which is part of the 1998 law that shields internet services from copyright liability based on user-generated content.
