Meta Hit With Patent Suit Over Metadata Extraction Technology

Meta Platforms Inc. was accused in a new lawsuit of infringing protected technology by extracting data and doing transcription for live and uploaded videos on its social media platforms.

Meta’s Wav2vec algorithm infringes US Patent No. 9,230,547, Datascription LLC said in a complaint filed Monday in the US District Court for the Western District of Texas. The patent protects methods for extracting metadata from non-transcribed audio and video streams, Datascription said.

The patent owner said the infringing activities are performed in Meta’s data centers.
