Meta Defeats Suit Over Data Collection From Third-Party Apps

Meta Platforms Inc. defeated a proposed class action alleging it improperly collected geolocation and other user data from third-party mobile apps without consumers’ consent.

The plaintiffs failed to show that Meta knew its access and use of their data occurred without their permission, which was fatal to their claims under the California Consumer Data Access and Fraud Act and of invasion of privacy, Judge Rita F. Lin said Thursday for the US District Court for the Northern District of California.
