Meta Asks Judge to Stay Latest Copyright Suit Over AI Model

Meta Platforms Inc. said a copyright suit brought against it earlier this month by author Christopher Farnsworth should be stayed, arguing the “copycat lawsuit” serves “no legitimate purpose” because the author would belong to a class of authors already suing the tech giant.

Meta is currently battling a class action brought by authors including Richard Kadrey and comedian Sarah Silverman, and said Farnsworth’s lawsuit brought “no new claim or dimension to the case,” according to a letter addressed to Judge Vince Chhabria filed Monday in the US District Court for the Northern District of California.
