Mercedes, VW Hit With Headlight Patent Infringement Suit (1)

Car-part maker Torchlight Technologies LLC has slammed luxury auto brands including Mercedes-Benz USA LLC and Volkswagen AG with a patent-infringement lawsuit that alleges certain LED headlight control systems steal from Torchlight’s designs.

Torchlight said that headlights in certain car models infringe its US Patent Nos. 9,955,551, 10,894,503, and 11,208,029, which cover illuminating and adjusting LED headlights based on roadway conditions. The suit also names Mercedes-owned Daimler AG and Volkswagen’s Audi AG and Porsche AG as defendants. In a separate lawsuit, the company accused General Motors of infringing the same patents.
