Medtronic Loses Patent Trial Over Sacral-Nerve Implant Tech (1)

Axonics Modulation Technologies Inc. rebuffed a patent suit filed by Medtronic Inc., convincing a jury it hadn’t infringed Medtronic patents relating to an implant device that can treat a patient’s overactive bladder by stimulating their sacral nerve.

Jurors in the US District Court for the Central District of California concluded that Axonics’ r-SNM System didn’t infringe 10 claims from three Medtronic patents, US Patent Nos. 8,036,756; 8,626,314; and 9,463,324, according to a verdict issued Wednesday afternoon. The jurors additionally rejected Medtronic’s argument Axonics infringed the ‘756 and ‘314 patents under the doctrine of equivalents.
