Massachusetts General Hospital sued a commercialization spin-off and one of its former researchers, claiming they stole trade secrets underlying “CoolSculpting” fat-freezing technology and patented those ideas without crediting the hospital.
Harvard’s largest research and teaching hospital claims former dermatology researcher Dr. Emilia Javorsky misappropriated proprietary confidential information related to the cosmetic treatment of visible fat bulges and shared it with Arctic Fox Biomedical Inc., a startup funded by MedCap Growth Equity LLC, now known as Miraki Innovation. Each is named as a co-defendant in Massachusetts General’s complaint, filed Monday in Boston federal court.
