Marijuana Stock Exchange Allegedly Infringes Website Trademarks

A financial data website that focuses on marijuana says that a stock exchange for the drug infringes its “Cannabis Benchmarks” and “Hemp Benchmarks” trademarks.

Humboldt Marijuana Exchange LLC uses confusing domain names to profit from New Leaf Data Services LLC’s marks, the website operator says in a complaint filed in the U.S. District Court for the District of Connecticut Aug. 8.

New Leaf, which calls itself “a leading provider of financial, business, and industry data for the North American cannabis and hemp markets,” says it owns federal trademark registrations for “Hemp Benchmarks” and “Cannabis Benchmarks” covering “market research and business ...
