Major Pro Sports Leagues Team Up to Sue Alleged Counterfeiters

Online counterfeiters are trading in all sorts of counterfeit major league sports merchandise and all four leagues—the NBA, NFL, NHL, and MLB—want a court order to stop it, according to a new lawsuit.

The March 14 complaint by the leagues claims the Internet entities create thousands of virtual stores as part of a scheme to illegally sell trademarked merchandise to unsuspecting consumers.

The trademark infringement suit was filed in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois by NBA Properties Inc., Major League Baseball Properties Inc., MLB Advanced Media LP, NHL Enterprises, NFL Properties LLC, IMG College Licensing ...
