Magna Mirrors, SMR Car Side-Mirror Patent Appeal Ends Abruptly

Two car-mirror makers ended a long-running patent dispute over an allegedly infringing blindspot-eliminating side mirror.

Magna Mirrors of America had asked the US Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit to overturn a December 2022 verdict finding that SMR Automotive Systems USA Inc.'s mirrors—used on several Ford Motor Co. models and the Fiat 500—hadn’t infringed and that Magna’s patents were obvious in light of a trailer-towing mirror on the 2001 Dodge Ram.

Magna sued SMR Automotive Systems USA Inc. in 2017, seeking $24 million in damages based on sales of the allegedly infringing mirrors.
