MAD Magazine Moves Closer to Win in Don Martin Trademark Case

The publisher of MAD Magazine is one step closer to escaping a federal lawsuit in Florida that says it infringed the Don Martin trademark owned by the cartoonist’s widow.

Magistrate Judge Lauren F. Louis of the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida recommended Wednesday that MAD publisher E.C. Publications and parent company DC Comics Inc. be granted summary judgment.

The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit had revived some of Norma Martin’s claims against MAD last March, after the Florida district court had granted the defendants’ motion for summary judgment in 2020.
