Lyft Denies Infringement in Rideshare Technology Patent Dispute

Lyft Inc. wants a federal district court in California to weigh in on the ownership of location technology a Baltimore company says it owns.

Quartz Auto Technologies LLC wanted the ridesharing company to pay to license a portfolio of four of its patents, then alleged Lyft was infringing the patents, according to the complaint filed Wednesday in U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California.

Lyft is seeking a declaration from the court that it isn’t infringing Quartz’s patents.

One patented technology quickly calculates queries for location-based services and represents geographical regions as two-dimensional objects, according to court documents. ...
