A New York federal judge rejected Lutron Electronics Co.’s preferred definitions of three disputed phrases from patents in a dispute over a motorized window shade system, reminding the parties that “a court engaged in claim construction is not supposed to redefine words.”
J Geiger Shading Technology, officially named GeigTech East Bay LLC, alleges that Lutron’s high-end Palladiom system infringes the patents. The company is named after James Geiger, who in 2011 started creating shading systems in his Charleston, S.C., home. It’s now a full-service designer, manufacturer, and installer of motorized window shades that are sold nationwide.
