Louisiana Christian School Goes to Court Over ‘LCU’ Acronym

Baptist higher education institution Louisiana College seeks a federal judge’s declaration that its use of the LCU acronym doesn’t infringe on a Texas Christian institution’s trademark.

The college says it registered to change its name to Louisiana Christian University in 2021, only to receive a letter from Lubbock Christian University in 2022 that using the LCU acronym infringes its trademark. The lawsuit follows a telephone conversation between the institutions’ presidents where the president of Lubbock allegedly threatened to sue Louisiana College.
