LinkedIn Shouldn’t Escape eBuddy Patent Suit, Delaware Judge Says

LinkedIn Corp. didn’t show patents related to contact aggregation and user notification technology cover unpatentable subject matter, a magistrate judge said in recommending an infringement suit against the social network move forward.

Netherlands-based eBuddy Technologies B.V. sued LinkedIn in November 2020, alleging infringement of four patents. Two patents cover systems of contact aggregation between different messaging services. The other two cover methods of receiving information about an event.

LinkedIn argued each patent covers only an abstract idea and is invalid under Section 101 of the Patent Act.
