LG Electronics USA Inc. and ZTE (USA) Inc.'s smartphone features that let users unlock their devices by making a pattern on the touchscreen infringe patented technology, a patent holding company alleged.
Tactus Technologies LLC filed two separate lawsuits against LG and ZTE. The May 16 complaints show how patent holding companies resort to litigation to try to win royalty payments.
The company alleged that the smartphone makers are infringing U.S. Patent No. 9,696,847. The patent, which describes a method that enables gesture-based inputs for a touchscreen device, was granted in 2017.
