Online legal services provider LegalZoom.com will be able to escape a trademark infringement lawsuit from rival LegalForce Inc., at least for now.
The U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California dismissed LegalForce’s complaint March 13 as inadequate, but gave the company time to fix it.
LegalForce operates the website Trademarkia.com, which lets users search and monitor trademarks. LegalZoom offers similar services on its own website.
LegalZoom allegedly bought the domain “LegalZoomTrademarkia.com,” and used it to divert traffic to its main site. LegalForce sued for trademark infringement under federal and California law, as well as cyberpiracy.
