Lady A, the music group formerly known as Lady Antebellum, asked a federal court in Nashville to declare that its name trademarks don’t infringe the claimed rights of singer Anita White, who’s performed as Lady A for years.
The group dropped “antebellum” from its name this year “in recognition of the hurtful connotations of the word,” and says it just “recently learned” that Seattle-based musician Anita White has performed and promoted her music as Lady A since 2010. Since the discovery, the parties have attempted to negotiate a coexistence agreement.
