Labels, Internet Archive Pause Copyright Suit to Discuss Deal

A federal judge stayed a copyright feud between record labels and the nonprofit Internet Archive over a library of digitized song recordings to give the parties time to negotiate a settlement.

Judge Maxine M. Chesney paused the case for 30 days after the labels—which include UMG Recordings Inc., Sony Music Entertainment, and Capitol Records LLC—and Internet Archive, granting the parties’ request for a pause to resolve their dispute, in a docket entry filed April 4 in the US District Court for the Northern District of California.
