Cloud services company Kollective Technology Inc. secured a quick win in a patent suit related to video sharing technology, after a judge found the patent invalid.
Judge Edward Davila in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California dismissed Cooperative Entertainment Inc.’s infringement suit in a Monday order. Davila said U.S. Patent No. 9,432,452 covers only an abstract idea.
“Because the patent merely states an improved result to an abstract idea without reciting a ‘specific means or method that solves a problem in an existing technological process,’ the claims are not patent eligible,” Davila wrote.
