Effective from September 1, 2015, the Korean Intellectual Property Office and the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office have commenced the Collaborative Search Pilot Program (CSP) for the purpose of promoting the quality and consistency in substantive examination results by sharing information on prior art.
Under the CSP, an applicant may acquire patents early through accelerated examination in both South Korea and the U.S.
The KIPO-USPTO CSP will be formally implemented after a test period of 2 years. During the test period, the number of requests under the CSP will be limited to 400.
