- COMPANY INFO: Booking Holdings Inc (Bloomberg Law Subscription)
The company behind the popular Kayak, Priceline and Booking.com travel sites infringes seven patents via their mobile applications, a Texas company alleges in a lawsuit in a California federal district court.
Booking Holdings Inc. is infringing patents related to the searching of databases and displaying of results via features on its brands’ websites and mobile applications, Texas-based Corrino Holdings LLC alleged.
Corrino accused Booking of “implementing, without authorization, Corrino’s proprietary technologies in a number of its commercial products and services throughout its brands,” in its Oct. 25 lawsuit in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California.
Booking’s site and mobile application for the restaurant reservation booking service OpenTable, along with those for its rental car entity Rentalcars and hotel renting service Agoda, also allegedly infringe claims in Corrino’s patents.
“Back-end servers, computing systems, user information, and other technology are provided, operated, and controlled by Booking Holdings and are connected and/or shared amongst the Booking Holdings brands,” Corrino alleged in its complaint.
Corrino says it should receive enhanced damages because the infringement was willful and deliberate.
Cause of Action: Patent infringement
Relief: Damages; litigation costs
Response: Booking didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment.
Attorneys: Feinberg Day Kramer Alberti Lim Tonkovich & Belloli LLP and Lee Sullivan Shea & Smith LLP represent Corrino Holdings LLC.
